2017 VICTORIAN PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS (VPPY’s)

I finally had a chance to put onto paper what I wanted to say Thursday night but couldn’t…
Anyone who puts their soul into their work understands the self doubt that comes with it … it’s always there, some days it rears its ugly head louder & stronger and others days it’s so quiet but never really forgotten!
Winning this award doesn’t make it go away but it does show me that with passion, hard work, an amazing support crew & a little luck good things happen.
I’m so honored to be award this special title “2017 AIPP Victorian family photographer of the year”. I’m grateful to be apart of the AIPP & all that it stands for. A few years ago I went to a function on family photography, a lady spoke to us about how much family means to her, her words seemed to echo my thoughts, and effected me in a way she will never truly know ( nor has she any idea she actually did – Shireen Hammond that person was you) It was that day I realised I wanted to really focus on photographing families ! It’s where my heart truly lies.
My thank you list is long … It starts with my husband, my rock. This guy is the most selfless person I know, he puts everyone before himself. His hard working ethic is so inspirational! The father of our five kids & my best friend. Love you same… and for letting me stomp through your canola crops just to get some good photos, thanks Hun.
My kids … they are my muses, my reason I do what I do. They keep me grounded and on my toes all at the same time but I wouldn’t have them any other way. A special thanks to my eldest Georgina who often watches the little ones while I’m working at the farm studio x
Carolyn aka Mum, Dad, Suzanne, Andy, Glenn, Aly, Sophie, Rebecca & Bridie – Thank you for your continual support, I’m truly grateful. I know I don’t tell you all enough but you guys’ rock & thanks for putting up with my kids at a moments notice lol!
Leanne & Raylene ヅ – You girls get it, you know what goes into every images that is produced, the hours & the self doubt. Leanne thanks for always dropping everything to be at my side for every AIPP event. Both your friendship and support is treasured more then you will ever know.
My clients – this wouldn’t happen without you. Every family that comes to the farm studio leaves with a little piece of my heart. Thank you.
Atkins Pro Lab – The printing masters! Thank you Paul and the team for the beautiful prints you create, for understanding the importance of a perfect print for these awards! Your service & professionalism is much appreciated.
To the AIPP Victoria & AIPP – I’m so proud to apart of this profession! Thank you for all the hard work you all put in to make it ever changing and growing with the times. To the AIPP judges – thank you for seeing something in my work, for the long hours you put into judging (time away from family) and for the great feed back you give. To the award team, print handlers and everyone involved in running the Awards – without you all the award events wouldn’t happen – you guys rock!!
Emily & Caroline – congratulations ladies! Being a finalist is an amazing achievement! Truly inspirational work.
To every person that visits my page and takes the time to “like” or comment on my images, Thank you for taking time out of your day to do so, so grateful you do!
I’m not amazing, I’m just doing what I love – family! My whole world is my family. I want people to have those amazing images that speak to your heart and that are of their world, their family! Images that make them realise what they have got is within arms reach, is real and amazing. I’m not amazing I’m just a girl, who heart belongs to her family.
Much love Nic

2016 APPA’s (Australian professional photography awards)

and so for another year APPA (australian professional photography awards) has come to an end.. all those stomach churning moments has passed. while this year i was unable to attended the judging in Melbourne, a few of my most supportive and inspirational photo geek friends got together the early morning of Sunday to watch the family judging. I had 4 images entered this year, I needed 2 points to be awarded my associates (which is the first step towards my masters), 2 images didn’t received awards but where in the high professional standard – one earned me 1/2 a point. My 2 favourite entries did receive awards – 1 silver with distinction and 1 silver! Happy dance! I’m now a proud associate member of the AIPP! bring on next year!

NAPCP January 2016 international image competition

I’ve been a member of the NAPCP  (national association of professional child photography)  for over a year now, I first joined to learn as much as I could , and I still continue to do so, it a great place full of amazing photographers willing to help others. This year I decided to enter a image in the family category , and while this image has won me 2 Australian awards, I thought I’d give it a go internationally. I was over the moon to receive a 3rd place in this pristine competition! it’s an honour to be named up there with some pretty outstanding photographers..

2015 AUSTRALIAN PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS (APPA’s)

WOW! To say that the last couple of days have been inspiring & eye opening would be an understatement. I’ve spent those days immersed in my craft, in awe of the talent that is in this country, and laughing with people that inspire & support!
APPA’s as it is known to us in the pro photo world (for you muggles it means Australian professional photography awards). It’s a 4 day judging process with a gala dinner at the end (think golden globes flashy dinner lol).
The competition is tough, the judging is tough but you wouldn’t have it another way being a national competition.
I entered 4 prints all in the category Family (2 from states & 2 new ones). I sat there watching the family prints being judged -thinking, oh wow I’m out of my league! When the chairman says “Next print please” and your print is turned around, your heart sinks into your stomach, with a mixture of fear and pride having made it this far!
Im extremely proud to have walked away with 2 silvers & 1 sliver with distinction. my 4th print scored with in professional practice.
So without meaning to sound like a Logie speech lol
Theres a few people that need a public thank you!
My husband who is my rock and my amazing mum. If I didn’t have their support it just wouldn’t happen. Asking one to look after 5 full on kids is a big ask!
Leanne, Ali & Raylene – your girls rock! Your encouragement, support, and laughs make this so great to be apart of. I love that we can talk photography until the cows come home and never tire from it all.. Ali thank you for your time and help getting my award prints ready xx
My Clients – thanks for trusting me to make your heart smile with my photography!!
So here are my award winning prints !!

2015 VICTORIAN PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS – (VPPY’s)

As part of the AIPP, we get to challenge ourselves and enter the State awards and the Australian awards each year.  This year was my first time entering the Victorian State awards as full AIPP member. Let me tell you its a pretty scary thing having your work judged by your peers!  Why do it? I hear you ask.. I enter the awards for me! I love the nerves , and excitement that comes with seeing your work get judged. I love seeing all the other amazing entries, and learning from what the judges have to say.  This year’s winning images both in the family category.
